In catering to individuals with lactose intolerance, Valio developed a patented inventive process (described in patent applications worldwide and already patented in Europe and elsewhere) to remove the lactose from high quality milk. Taking advantage of ultrafiltration, an advanced filtering technique, Ultra Filtration, the patented Valio technology would go on to win awards across Europe. Of course, awards were not the only product of the Valio Ultra Filtration process: Valio^® Zero Lactose^™, a lactose free milk brand that actually tastes like real milk, was born.

Zero Lactose^™ was renamed Real Goodness^™ for its introduction into the United States. By combining Finnish technology with Grade A milk produced on dairy farms in the rolling hills of New England, Valio’s arrival in the United States will allow lactose sensitive Americans to finally enjoy the taste of real milk without the lactose.
